Certificate in Assessing in the Active Leisure Sector
INTRODUCTION
This certificate is an industry-specific award for assessors who want to qualify using exercise and fitness assessment practice as evidence for their assessor’s award. It is accepted by the sector’s awarding bodies to assess on RVQ Exercise and Fitness Awards.
WHAT IS THE COURSE ABOUT?
On this course you will learn about various skills, strategies and methods and about the different stages of the assessment process. You will also be taught how to plan and conduct an assessment and make valid and reliable assessment decisions that meet national requirements and about the quality assurance procedures and practices.

WHO IS THE COURSE SUITABLE FOR?
Individuals over 18 who wish to pursue a career in assessing within the active leisure sector.
WHAT QUALIFICATIONS ARE NEEDED?
Candidates must have a minimum of three years’ industry experience and hold a current qualification in the particular subject area that they wish to assess.
WHAT WILL BE STUDIED?
You will study towards three units:
- Planning and preparing for assessment in the active leisure sector
- Carrying out an assessment and making an assessment decision in the active leisure sector
- Quality assurance procedures in the active leisure sector
HOW IS IT ASSESSED?
- Internally assessed worksheet
- Internally assessed practical assessment (includes planning, teaching and evaluating)
- Internally assessed portfolio of evidence
