Award in Functional Training for the Independent Older Adult

WHAT IS THE COURSE ABOUT?

The course will teach you the theoretical principles of the anatomical and physiological changes that result from the ageing process. It will include the specific impairments and clinical conditions that clients may present with, including changes in the musculoskeletal system, CV and nervous systems.
The course will also give you underpinning knowledge of the social, emotional and psychological considerations of teaching exercise to this client group. Through the practical sessions you will learn how to deliver safe, effective functional programme design and exercise application for the independent older adult client.

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?

  • 3 days.
  • 1 practical assessment day.

WHO IS THE COURSE SUITABLE FOR?

Anyone over 18 who wishes to deliver exercise sessions in either exercise to music, circuits or individual instruction in the gym.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS ARE NEEDED?

A Level 3 qualification in either personal training or advanced fitness instruction or  other similar qualification.

HOW IS IT ASSESSED?

1. Written theory test (25% weighting towards qualification)
2. Case study (25% weighting towards qualification)
3. Practical teaching (50% weighting towards qualification)

ARE THERE ANY BOOKS OR SPECIAL EQUIPMENT THAT THE STUDENT NEEDS TO PURCHASE?

All course materials will be provided.
