Introduction
Most health experts agree that the UK is facing a huge increase in the number of people with diabetes. Since 1996 the number of people diagnosed with diabetes has increased from 1.4 million to 2.6 million. Due to our aging population and rapidly rising numbers of overweight and obese people, this is set to further increase to over four million people. Today 52% of the population are overweight with obesity climbing year on year.

What Is The Course About?

- Safe and effective exercise programmes for clients with obesity, diabetes mellitus and/or metabolic syndrome

Who Is The Course Suitable For?
- Individuals 16 years and over
- Level 3 advanced instructors and personal trainers
- Those wishing to become a specialist instructor at Level 4
What Qualifications Are needed?
- Level 3 Certificate In Personal Training or Level 3 Advanced Fitness Instructing plus one additional certificate at Level 3 (eg CYQ Award In Instructing Physical Activity For Ante/Post Natal Exercise, CYQ Certificate In Exercise Referral For Clients With Specific Controlled Conditions (GP Referral), CYQ Award in Functional Training for the Independent Older Adult)
- Evidence of 1,200 hours of appropriate professional experience (one year) at Level 3
- Completion of the REPs Professional Practice Unit

- Patho-physiology, features and impact
- Nutritional and behavioural advice
- Behavioural change strategies
- Principles of weight management and diabetes physical activity programmes
- Movement and health screening processes
