What Qualifications Are Needed?

  • There are no formal prerequisites for this qualification, however awareness of using a gym or participating in group or water-based exercise classes or equivalent is advisable

  • Anatomy and physiology including:
    • Heart and circulatory system
    • Respiratory system
    • Structure and function of the skeleton
    • Musculoskeletal system
    • Posture and core stability
    • Nervous and energy systems, and their relation to exercise
  • How to maintain health, safety and welfare in a variety of fitness environments, including the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults
  • How to programme safe and effective exercise for a range of clients
  • How to communicate with clients effectively and motivate them to adhere to an exercise programme
  • Health benefits of physical activity
  • Importance of healthy eating

  • Multiple-choice theory exams
