Introduction
Learn how to teach dance-based aerobics classes.
This course is designed for dance lovers and aerobics instructors with a flair for creative choreography. It is also suitable for dancers looking for a recognised fitness qualification in order to increase their work potential.
Through the ETM certificate, DanceEx is one of the standard entry routes to becoming a fitness instructor and is a great way to start your career in fitness.
This course will be subject to a 20% price increase for VAT from 1st December 2011

What Is The Course About?
- Gaining an understanding of the body’s systems and its response to exercise
- Planning and teaching safe and effective dance based fitness sessions
- Understanding a broad spectrum of dance styles and associated techniques
- The different ways of working with music
- Adapting choreography to suit varied fitness levels
- Using a range of teaching skills, including verbal and non-verbal instruction
- Understanding how to structure and deliver a successful dance class
How Long Does It Last?
- Pre-reading
- One day theory (on-line option available)
- Three days practical
Who Is The Course Suitable For?
- Individuals 16 years and over
- Those wishing to work in a studio as a group exercise instructor
What Qualifications Are Needed?
- Functional Anatomy For Fitness (unless already a qualified fitness instructor)
- A love of dance
- Previous participation in dance classes of any genre
What Will Be Studied?
- Concepts of fitness
- Bones and joints
- Muscular, respiratory and energy systems
- How to structure a dance class including; warm-up and isolations, breakdown, rehearsal, performance and cool down
- How to interpret music and work with different rhythms, genres, accents, phrases, lyrics, verse, chorus, breaks and tempo
- How to plan and teach classes using a variety of dance styles including commercial, street, Latin and contemporary
- How to create, safe and effective choreography and deliver authentic, enjoyable classes that inspire members to keep coming back
How Is It Assessed?
- Multiple-choice theory exams (unless already a qualified fitness instructor)
- Direct observation of teaching practical sessions
- Lesson plans
- Worksheets
Are There Any Books Or Special Equipment That Need To Be Purchased?
- No, all course materials will be provided
What Can The Qualification Lead To?
- Work as a group dance exercise instructor
- Further training in pre-choreographed dance programmes such as Zumba and fx
- An en-route qualification to becoming a personal trainer
